Employment Law Optimism
Even though we’re a day late due to the holiday, we are still committed to bringing you good news in our third installment of the “Monday Morning Good Things for Employees!!” Last week was full of ups and downs, but here are some Good Things for Employees to focus on:
- Andrew Puzder withdrew his nomination for the Secretary for the Department of Labor! This is great news for workers in the United States.
- Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau participated in a roundtable discussion focusing on women and the workplace and even established a task force called the “United States Canada Council for the Advancement of Women Business Leaders – Female Entrepreneurs.”
- An Illinois judge ruled that state workers will continue to be paid, even though there is still no state budget.
- The City of Seattle will now provide its employees with 12 weeks of paid parental leave! (Hint hint Chicago! Hope you’re taking notes). Employees become eligible after working for the city for six months.
- Lastly, a Texas Lowe’s hired an unemployed veteran and his service dog — a 10-year old yellow lab! This heartwarming story will redeem your faith in employers.
There you have it: five good things for employees from last week. This just goes to show that if you look hard enough there are always things to be happy about.
As always, if you have any Good Things you would like to see added to next week’s list, please comment or email us directly!
